Instead of the same old yams, why not take it up a notch? There are many variations of this recipe, but this one really makes the best bourbon yams, creamy and sweet with a subtle twist — check it out!
Ingredients:
7 tbsp. unsalted butter at room temperature, divided
6 sweet potatoes (4 pounds)
1/4 c. bourbon or whiskey
4 tbsp. brown sugar
Kosher salt
1 c. chopped pecans
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly butter a 2-quart baking dish with 1 tbsp. butter.
2. Roast the yams on a rimmed baking sheet until a knife easily inserts into centers,
about 1 hour. Cool enough to handle, then remove and discard skins.
3. Coarsely chop potatoes and reduce oven temperature to 375°F.
4. Mash together the yams, bourbon, 2 tablespoons butter, and 1 tablespoon brown sugar in a bowl. Season with the desired amount of salt.
5. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
6. Combine the pecans, cinnamon, the remaining 4 tablespoons butter, and 3 tablespoons of brown sugar in a second bowl. Sprinkle over potatoes.
7. Bake until warm and bubbly, about 30 to 35 minutes. Enjoy!
Note: You can substitute maple syrup for the brown sugar!
