What are Your Thoughts on the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

When I wrote Off the Chart, I knew that you can't write a book about healthcare during a pandemic and not at least mention it. I discuss COVID-19 in the book's epilogue along with the history of other pandemics, how they were handled, their outcome, and then compared them to the one we were dealing with in 2020. After doing some research, it was apparent that there were many differences in the response to our pandemic of 2020, compared to those in our history books. As a nurse, I am pro-vaccine, but the COVID vaccine felt rushed, and I was hesitant to receive it. My friend, Dr. Cary Savitch, an infectious disease physician for over four decades wrote an article titled, "Wait a Minute", in which he shares that he wasn't comfortable with it either. Although I did receive the vaccine and two subsequent boosters, I'm on the fence about whether to do another; and Dr. Savitch, who agreed to receive the vaccine initially, definitively stated that he will no longer continue with any further vaccinations for COVID-19. In early 2023, a claim was made that more than 1,500 athletes had suffered cardiac arrest since COVID-19 vaccinations began, and attributed the events to having received the vaccine. Despite the controversy, many sources (including Pfizer and Moderna) continue to condone the necessity of the vaccine. How do you feel about it? Do you believe the sudden deaths we're seeing are related to the COVID-19 vaccination?

There's been a lot of controversy regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, beginning the day that the vaccine became available. First, only a select few were allowed to receive it, then it became mandatory for all, and now sudden cardiac-related deaths are being attributed to the vaccine.

What are your thoughts?
